Love Works

As part of the Christ Church 50th Anniversary Celebration, Love Works was created to help honor God with acts of service. Please consider volunteering in one or more of the projects listed as an individual, with your family, or with a small group.

DuPage PADS, Lombard Night Site 
Sunday April 9, 8:30 p.m. to Monday April 10, 7:30 a.m.
4 Hour Shift Per Volunteer

 

A team of volunteers from Christ Church of Oak Brook serve the homeless in Lombard, IL from Sunday evening to Monday morning six times a year.   New volunteers will be paired with seasoned volunteers.  If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. We would be happy to talk you through them.  

Shift 1 - 8:30 p.m.- 12:00 a.m. Make lunches and assist with participants' needs.
Shift 2 - 12:00 a.m. - 4:00 a.m. Monitor the night site, welcome late arrivals and warm up dinners.
Shift 3 - 4:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m.  (Monday) Wake up participants, prepare and serve breakfast.
Shift 4 - 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.  (Monday) Clean up crew.

Shift 1, 2 and 3 are open to adults only. Shift 4 is open to adults and children 13 and over with a parent or guardian.  All volunteers must complete a volunteer application and background check. 

What skills do you need?

Can you make a sandwich?  Can you pour a bowl of cereal? You are in!

Pacific Garden Mission 
Serve the Homeless

Pacific Garden Mission

Pacific Garden Mission has been meeting the needs of homeless men, women and children for over 125 years.  Today, that mission remains unchanged. In addition to a warm bed and meals, Pacific Garden Mission ministers to the homeless in order to win the lost for Christ.  Pacific Garden Mission is located at: 1458 S Canal St, Chicago. Street parking is available. 

We will serve from 9am to 2pm. Pacific Garden Mission usually offers a tour of the ministry towards the end of the volunteer time. If you haven’t taken it already, it’s a good chance to see the breadth of what is done at Pacific Garden Mission.

York Community Resource Center

York Community Resource Center  (YCRC)  restores hope and provides opportunities for children, youth and families to reach their fullest potential. Through after school programs, tutoring, and parent groups, YCRC works in Villa Park/Lombard to advance the academic skills of children and youth, and to increase opportunities for all.

Serve your community and make a lasting impact at YCRC by becoming a tutor, or a classroom aide; join the arts and recreation team or assist with special events and field trips. Find joy by sharing your time, talents and energy.

If you are interested in any of the above, or related opportunities click below to start the process of filling out a volunteer application and background check.  Upon its completion a representative from York Community Resource Center will contact you to further explore your desire to serve.

York Center School Child Care Volunteers Needed
April 12, 4:45 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

A minimum of 5 babysitters are needed to care for infants and toddlers while their parents attend a PTA meeting on April 12th from 4:45 to 6:15 p.m.

Volunteering with the little ones at York Center is a fun event that gives us lots of opportunity to interact with both children and parents. The number of children is always a surprise!  

York Center is located at 895 14th Street, in Lombard.  Please remember to bring your driver's license or other form of ID the night of the event.

Registration closes on April 4th in order to accommodate those who need to complete their volunteer applications and / or background checks.

Roosevelt Road Initiative 
York Center School Open House Volunteers Needed
Date Change:  Wednesday, May 3, 5:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Volunteers are needed to help with the York Center Open House's book fair by helping families to shop, to work the cash register, or other duties that come up. The open house is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Volunteers are requested to arrive at 5:45 and asked to be available until 8:30 p.m.  

Registration closes on April 21, in order to accommodate those who need to complete their volunteer applications and / or background checks.

May 10, 2:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Stevenson School is located at 18 W 331 East 15th Street in unincorporated Lombard. Please remember to bring your driver's license or other form of ID the night of the event.
