Pacific Garden Mission Opportunity
20 Volunteers needed to pray, talk, listen, and encourage transient guests.
August 26, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Pacific Garden Mission

Pacific Garden Mission has been meeting the needs of homeless men, women and children for over 125 years.  Today, that mission remains unchanged. In addition to a warm bed and meals, Pacific Garden Mission ministers to the homeless in order to win the lost for Christ.  Pacific Garden Mission is located at: 1458 S Canal St, Chicago. Street parking is available.

Pacific Garden Mission has asked us to put together a team of ten men and ten women  to take time to sit with transient guests at Pacific Garden Mission. Volunteers are needed to pray, talk, listen and encourage the guests.

Volunteers will work in pairs.  Volunteers are encouraged to bring a Bible.

Kids Hope
Elementary School Mentors

Kids Hope is a strong nationwide organization dedicated to helping children.  Christ Church members Ellen Jurkonis and Ruth Vanderlaan have recently completed their Kids Hope training and are looking forward to leading a group of volunteers into the important roles of mentoring children and prayer partners for our mentors.

Mentors will meet weekly with their students. Currently, the project will involve mentors meeting once a week at either York Center School or Stevenson School.  Both schools are in District 45 and are located near Westmore /Meyers Road and Roosevelt Road.

The goal is to have mentors begin their meetings with students in the middle of September.  We know that is months away, but there are many steps to take before we can have our prayer partners and mentors begin.  We’ve started taking those steps and look forward to the time when mentors walk into a building to meet their students as their prayer partners support them.
